Summer Scratch League 2024
12 Clubs have entered this year's Summer Scratch League. Teams will be placed into 4 divisions as outlined below meaning each will have two home and two away fixtures.
Teams to consist of four players playing one foursome and two singles matches over 18-holes. 1.5 points will be awarded for a foursome win and 1 point for a singles win (0.75 and 0.5 respectively for halved matches). Overall, the winning team will receive 2 points with 1 point each for a tied match. Tied positions in leagues will be resolved on the basis of the combined results between teams.
It is the responsibility of the clubs involved to arrange their home and away matches against each other. As in previous years the top team in each league will form 4 semi-finalists.

Trevose - Summer Scratch League Winners 2023

On a day of two halves, hosted by The Point at Polzeath GC, the four man team from Trevose G&CC claimed major honours as they captured the 2023 Summer Scratch League title.
Four teams set out on a very wet morning to contest the Summer Scratch League semi finals on a day where the competition's name was for a large part inappropriate. First up Tehidy Park took on Carlyon Bay followed by St Mellion versus Trevose. By the time both matches were concluded all the players had suffered and the clubhouse was a welcome sanctuary.
In the first semi final Tehidy Park claimed both singles matches through Rob MacGregor (2&1 over Martin Quantick) and Justin Barnard (5&4 over Mark Blaber) to gain an unassailable lead with their foursomes pairing of Chris Hoyle & Lee Chambers halving with Max Gay & Alec Nile. Thus a score of 2.75 - 0.75 in Tehidy's favour.
Trevose had things a little easier against St Mellion winning 3.5 - 0 with singles wins for Neil Rowlands (4&3 over Matt Piper) and Cary Clark (5&4 over Clark Patterson). The Trevose foursomes pair of Steve Davies and Sean Williams won 4&3 against Andrew Doidge and Martin Freemantle.
So a Tehidy Park v Trevose final was set up and seemed a mouth watering prospect. And literally as the two teams teed off for their afternoon final the rain stopped and the sun made a very welcome and well received appearance.
With Cary Clark having a great day in seeing off Justin Barnard by 5&4 first blood went the way of Trevose but this was cancelled out when the Tehidy foursomes pairing of Hoyle and Chambers despatched Davies and Williams 4&3. Thus it all came down to the final match on the course, the single between MacGregor and Rowlands and it was the latter who came out on top by just the one hole.
CGU President Martin Edwards presented the prizes and before doing so thanked the proprietors Jeremy & Eva Davies for allowing the competition to take place, Libby Edgar-Lehan for her assistance with arrangements and all of the greenkeeping and catering staff at The Point for their part in what in the end was a very successful day.
