Fairway Mats -  Where clubs are employing fairway mats as course protection the host club should publish a Local Rule and Notice covering their use. The Local Rule should read “When a player's ball lies in a part of the general area cut to fairway height or less and a putter is not being used for the stroke, the ball must be lifted, placed on and played from an Astroturf, or similar type of, mat. The mat must be placed as near as possible to where the ball originally lay, and the ball must be placed on the mat. The ball may be cleaned when lifted. If a ball when placed rolls off the mat, the player must try to place it a second time. If the ball again does not stay on the mat, the mat must be moved to the nearest spot, not nearer the hole, where the ball will come to rest on the mat when placed. If the player accidentally causes the ball on the mat to move before a stroke is made, there is no penalty and the ball must be placed again on the mat. If a tee is used to secure the mat into the ground, the ball must not be placed on the tee.  If a player does not use the mat when so prescribed the penalty in match play is loss of hole.

Use of Buggies -  Should a player require the use of a buggy then please ensure a request is made in good time together with an  accompanying medical certificate.

Professional Golfer acting as Caddie - There is no CGU rule in place preventing a professional golfer acting as caddie to an amateur player.

Poor Light or Weather Impact (P Trophy, F Wills, C Bowl)- If some matches are completed while others cannot be completed on the arranged day due to poor light or weather and provided that an overall result has not been reached, all matches are to be replayed, and each team is free to alter its original team. ( CTC) If the foursomes and ninth man game have been completed, but the singles have not been completed, the result of the foursomes and ninth man will count and the singles will be replayed, even though the original team members may not be available. If the foursomes and ninth man are not completed, the match will be postponed and started afresh at a revised date.

CGU Winter Knockout Rule Update (26th Nov 2021)

In the Cornwall Team Championship competition there is already a rule regarding weather impacted matches.

No such rule presently exists for the Presidents Trophy, Frank Wills and Cornwall Bowl competitions. As a result a rule will be introduced with immediate effect for these competitions and will read as follows;
If some matches are completed while others cannot be completed on the arranged day due to poor light or weather, and provided that an overall result has not been reached, all matches are to be replayed, and each team is free to alter its original team.

The CGU Terms of Competition have been updated to reflect this.
