The 2026 Cornwall Golf Junior Conference was held at Carlyon Bay on Thursday 26th February.
The Conference was attended by Junior Team Managers, Junior Organisers and Parents and there was presentations from Richard Bunch from Cornwall Golf and Tom Sparks from the Golf Foundation.
Richard Bunch opened the meeting on the new planned Junior coaching structure including welcoming the Junior Team Managers who have recently been appointed. The Cornwall Golf Junior Team Managers for 2026 are;
Under 18 Boys Team Manager Mark Wallwork, assisted by Steve Chapman
Under 18 Girls Team Manager Becky Williams, assisted by Bridget Moody
Under 16 Boys Team Manager Shane Dingle, assisted by Steve Cadby
Under 14 Boys Team Manager Matt Julian, assisted by Mark Hanton
Under 12 Boys Team Manager Matt Double, assisted by Graham Davis
Richard Bunch also presented about the Community Golf Instructor course and Cornwall now has over 40 qualified CGI's all over the county and also mentioned about the Golf Access funding available for clubs again for 2026. Golf Access had another successful project in Cornwall in 2025, with 145 new golfers taking to the golf course for the first time as part of the Golf Access initative.
After Richard's presentation, the Golf Foundation's South West Regional Development Manager Tom Sparks presented on the initiatives for this upcoming season from the Golf Foundation.
Tom presented about the Golf Sixes League, that had 5 clubs in Cornwall take part in 2025 and looking to grow this for 2026 and mentioned about the Unleash Your Drive project, which is the Golf Foundation's flagship initiative with introducing golf into schools.
Tom finished his presentation by saying that the Golf Foundation are working more closely than ever with England Golf and have a new Junior Golf Hub accreditation for golf clubs. England Golf and the Golf Foundation have developed the Junior Hub award with the goal of identifying and showcasing clubs that are the ‘right place’ for juniors to try, learn and love golf. The Junior Hubs Award has been created for clubs to aspire to achieve, and will support the club in their commitment to growing your junior section.
