The Cornwall Boys U18 team took on a strong Cornwall Men's Seniors team in the inaugural Steve Barns Trophy match played at West Cornwall Golf Club on Sunday 1st March 2026.
This is an annual fixture and it was decided that this is a fitting match to play for a trophy in the memory of Steve Barns. Steve was a committed and popular County Seniors Men's player, who regularly played in this fixture and for Cornwall in the Seniors Men's Channel League, who tragically passed away in a car crash in November last year.
The format for the match was 8 matches of fourball betterball off scratch.

First off for the Juniors was Cornwall Boys Captain Tiernan Wallwork playing with Alfie Chapman against one of the most experienced pairing for the Seniors team, Ian Veale and Simon Knowles. It was the juniors who managed to take the match 1 Up in very close match.
In the second match, the Seniors levelled up the match, with Guy Norris and Richard Emery playing some excellent golf to beat Harry Willmott and Archie Hayes by 3 and 2.
In match 3, the St Enodoc junior pairing of Harry Jolliff and Bobby Godfrey dovetailed excellently, winning against Dion Keyser and Mark Johnson by 4 and 3.
Match 4 was the experienced pairing of Andy Rowe and Dave Kneebone, who got off to a flying start and never looked back winning by 5 and 4 over Harrison Gurd and Luke O'Hanlon and levelling the match at 2 matches all.
In the fifth match, the Seniors pairing of Gary Stone and Richard Jones were ahead for most of the match, however the junior team of Owen Loton and Will Dingle fought hard and earned an impressive half.
Match 6 saw Men's Seniors Team Manager Warwick Holland and Men's Seniors Captain Mark Blaber play some solid golf to win another point for the Seniors, with a 3 and 2 win over Ethan Kinski and Rory Hudson.
After match 6, the Seniors held a narrow 1 point lead and needed just one more win from the two remaining matches on the course.
In match 7, the Launceston junior partnership of Edward Walters and Ryan Tozer produced a fantastic comeback to claim a half against the Seniors pairing of Richard Bunch and Lawrie Bridges.
That left the Seniors on 4 points and the last match was won by the junior pairing of Sam Hanton and Charlie Emmett by 4 and 3 over Martin Edwards to end the match in a deserved draw at 4 matches each.
We would like to thank West Cornwall Golf Club for kindly hosting the event and the Boys and Seniors teams enjoyed a meal afterwards in their suits as a mark of respect for Steve.
The County Men's Seniors start their Channel League campaign in April with an away match against Devon at Tavistock on Monday 27th April and the Cornwall Boys begin their season in the Easter school holidays with the 4 Counties at Woodbury Park between the 14th and 16th April.
