Truro and St Mellion victorious in rearranged SSL and SHL Finals

Summer Scratch & Handicap League Finals Conclude at West Cornwall Golf Club.

The Summer Scratch League (SSL) and Summer Handicap League (SHL) Finals were completed on Sunday 7th December at West Cornwall Golf Club. Originally scheduled for September, the finals were postponed due to severe weather and subsequently rescheduled to the only available fixture date that did not clash with the Winter Knockouts.

Despite a storm passing through earlier in the day, the course remained in excellent condition, and players enjoyed a dry—albeit windy—afternoon of golf.

Truro and Mullion met in the SSL Final, with Truro securing the title by 3.5–0.

With the teams tied, each side nominated a player for a sudden-death playoff. Maude represented Porthpean, while St Mellion selected Lane. On the first extra hole, Lane made an excellent par to clinch the SHL title for St Mellion.

The occasion also marked a special moment for Chris Pountney, who recently retired from the Cornwall Golf Union and became Captain of St Mellion in November. His presence at the final—and his club securing the trophy—was warmly received.

Both finals were played in superb spirit. Thanks are extended to Gareth Evans and the team at West Cornwall Golf Club, as well as to CGU Competition Chair Simon Harper for his support on the day.
