CLCGA vote in favour of Unification

At today’s EGM of the Cornwall Ladies County Golf Association (CLCGA), held at Perranporth GC, a total of 85 CLCGA members attended with and voted unanimously in favour of dissolving the Association, with effect from 28th February 2026.

This follows the approval of the Cornwall Golf Union membership vote last Thursday to dissolve the Union.

The nett outcome will see the formation of a new company, Cornwall Golf Ltd, which will come in to being from 1st March 2026, with assets from both the CGU and CLCGA being distributed to the new company, which will continue as a non-profit making body.

Both organisations have  approved the 2026 Affiliation fee being set at £15 per member per annum.

Between now and March 2026 the newly appointed board of the new company will oversee the transition period.

The Chair of Cornwall Golf will be Caroline Hume-Kendall. Caroline, a single figure golfer, is a member at St Enodoc GC and served as the first female Club Captain there from 2023 until recently. She is a qualified personal trainer, describing her defining moment as climbing the Matterhorn in 2008. Aside from this she has interests in sport generally as well as beekeeping and gardening.

David West, a Senior Manager at Chartered Accountants PKF Francis Clark, Truro has been appointed as Finance Director. David, a low single figure golfer has been a lifelong member at Newquay and has provided outstanding long-term service to the Cornwall Golf Union, having become its Treasurer back in 2006.

Peter Brooks has been appointed as Performance and Development Director. Peter is a member and Past Captain at Truro as well as a member of the CGU Executive Committee. Alongside wife Carolyn they founded a very successful financial planning business supporting clients in the South West. Peter has participated in other sport over the last 50+ years and understand what it takes to achieve high levels of performance. A keen Bowls player he was involved (at club level) during the unification of both the men’s and women’s affiliated bodies into Bowls Cornwall. Peter is keen to help develop the game of golf for everyone in Cornwall and allow them a pathway to maximise their potential and provide support to achieve it.

Simon Harper has been appointed as Championships and Competitions Director. Simon is the current St Austell Men's President, a two time Past Captain of the club where he has been a member for 57 years, and  is also Company Secretary of St Austell Golf Estates Ltd, set up to take on the ownership of the course and facilities to protect them for future generations. Vastly experienced in both club and county competition management, he joined the CGU Executive Committee in 1987 and has been CGU Championships Chair since 2020. He is the Course Rating Team Leader for Cornwall. Simon is married to Elaine who herself has been a great supporter of golf in the county and who for years has been involved in assisting at CGU competitions.

Carole Waights is appointed as Governance Director. Carole has a lot of experience at both County and National level of golf, having been Yorkshire Ladies Captain in 2013 and a Non Executive Director of England Golf for 3 years.  During this time she was Chair of the Nominations Committee, Chair of the People Strategy  Group and Vice Chair of the England Golf Governance Committee. Carole moved to Cornwall in 2017 with her husband Chris and they joined St Enodoc Golf Club.  She has been Ladies Captain and is currently Membership Secretary.  Carole is currently Chair of the Unification Working Group. Before retiring Carole worked in Organisational and Personal Development both in the UK and Internationally.

Martin Edwards is appointed as Club Support Director. He is the current CGU President having been elected to the role in 2022 after being involved at county golf executive level since 2002. He has been a member at Perranporth for 48 years and is a previous Captain and President at the club. Martin can also boast a 30-year stint as General Manager at Mannings Hotel, Truro. He lives in the city with wife Jenny.

Bowood Park Golf Club's Director of Golf Max Stockwell has been appointed the new Director of Communications for Cornwall Golf. Max has served as Director of Golf at Bowood Park for 8 years , a  member of the CGU Executive Committee and has  gained extensive experience in golf operations, member engagement, event coordination, and strategic communication within both club and county contexts.
