Cornish Golf is mourning the loss of County Seniors Team member Steve Barns who was tragically killed in an accident on the A30 in Devon on Friday evening.

A gentle man and so very dependable, Steve, just 63 years of age, was a member at West Cornwall Golf Club, and became a County Seniors team player in 2021 participating since then in 38 games for the Duchy, winning an impressive 53%. His swing and steady golf  were admired by many and he regularly represented his home club in county competitions.

Steve, worked previously as a Programme Manager with IBM consistently delivering projects to a high standard, whilst effectively managing both internal teams and third party suppliers.

CGU County President Martin Edwards expressed his extreme sadness simply saying 'This is so upsetting, Steve was one of the good guys'. Fellow golfers at both club and county, along with the County Captain have expressed deep sorrow at the news and paid glowing tributes to Steve.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Steve's wife Helen, the rest of his family and all those who knew him at this very sad time.

Funeral details will be published when available.
