Cornwall suffered another defeat yesterday when the Men's Channel League team lost 11.5 - 3.5 against Glamorgan at Creigiau. The loss leaves the Duchy men in 5th place in the 8 county league table with just one win from their 5 matches to date.

Despite the defeat there were some bright spots for Cornwall. The reunited Ross Lawrance and junior Alfie Chapman beat Glamorgan stalwarts Brent O'Neill and Ian Flower 4&2 in the morning foursomes whilst Sam Crocker gained a singles point winning one up against another Glamorgan regular in Craig Melding. Junior Tiernan Wallwork continued his impressive form with a 5&4 singles win against Harry Watkins, winner of the 2024 Welsh Amateur Stroke Play. St Mellion's Kieran Dixon made his county debut and can be pleased to have registered a halved singles match against Lewis John.

[County Captain Adam Bridgewater reports]

On Sunday 17th August Cornwall travelled to Creigiau Golf Club in South Wales to take on Glamorgan.

Glamorgan bristling with both current and past international players were going to be a tough nut to crack, matters were not helped with a Friday night drop out forcing Captain Adam Bridgewater into the fray.

The foursomes in the morning were all close affairs, Sam Crocker and Tiernan Wallwork losing on the last even though Crocker chipped in for a birdie!!!!!

Adam Bridgewater and Max Gay played former Walker Cup player and Captain of Glamorgan Llewelyn Matthews and his partner Harry Watkins and in a high quality game Matthews and Watkins won on the 17th.

Ross Lawrence and 15 year old Alfie Chapman beat the experienced pairing of Flower and O’Neill 4&2 to bring the match score to 2-1.

Debutant Kieran Dixon and Joe Ibbs-George again came up against international opposition again losing on the 17th hole.

The all Mullion Pairing of Ed Sherlock and Kyle Frasier succumbed in the last game on the course 3&1 to bring the morning to an end and Glamorgan a lead of 4-1.

The afternoon started well for the Duchy with Crocker, who is in great form this year, winning the opening game on the last hole, closely followed by a half from debutant Dixon playing at number two who was several shots under par in a pulsating tussle.

Tiernan Wallwork was also under par when he defeated his opponent 5&4, a great display from another of Cornwall's up and coming juniors.

That would be it for Cornwall, Glamorgan's strength shone through and they would win all of the remaining matches inflicting a heavy loss on the Cornish team.

Still there were plenty of positives against a very strong team.

Next up wil be Devon at Newquay Sunday 7th September and we would love to see some Cornish support if you have some time free. Jam First!
