As the Cornwall Ladies County Golf Association (CLCGA) and the Cornwall Golf Union (CGU) continue to move towards becoming a unified body, the Cornwall Golf Unification Working Group are now pleased to announce the process for appointment of Directors to the Company.
Each vacancy for Directors will be advertised via Clubs and on each of our websites.
The process of appointment will be staggered commencing in July with the Chair, followed in August by the Financial Director – other Directors following on in Autumn 2025. Please be aware it is important we have both male and female board representation.
We are inviting individuals to apply for the positions in writing to the Nominations Committee giving reasons why they believe they are suitable for the role along with a CV which should be sent to secretary@cornwallgolfunion.org.uk

The Nominations Committee (for members please see below) will then select the most appropriate individual to fill the vacancies following interviews.
Successful applicants will need to be ratified at the inaugural Annual General Meeting which is to be held in early March 2026.

The following highlights each individual’s skills making them suitable for the Nominations Committee.
Carole Waights has spent over 30 years working in HR for Blue Chip Companies and has vast experience in recruitment. Following retirement in 2015 she was elected to the Board of England Golf as a Non-Executive Director with responsibilities for the People Strategy and Chair of the Nominations Committee responsible for recruiting the first Independent Chairman of England Golf, the first 2 independent Non-Executive Directors and various members of the Executive Team.
Martin Edwards is currently in his third year as CGU President. He has been an active member of the working group creating the strategy for the future of Cornwall Golf. Martin has over 30 years’ experience in Senior Hotel Management. He is a Past Captain and Past President of Perranporth Golf Club and is currently a trustee. Martin has sat on the CGU executive for 23 years holding positions of Chairman of Competitions (8 years). He was a member of the selection committee for the Golf Development Officer and Chair of the committee for the new County Operations Manager.
Nikki Hodge became President of CLCGA in December 2024 and joined the working group immediately on appointment. Nikki first became part of the CLCGA as a county player in 2004. She has been County Vice Captain followed by Captain in 2016. Nikki is currently her club welfare officer. She is very keen to see the unification of the CLCGA and CGU and will be helping directly with the transition by holding the office of the first President of Cornwall Golf. Her working role within the NHS finds her sitting on many recruitment interview panels.
Positions on the Board are:
Chair with overall responsibility for developing strategy and the running of Cornwall Golf supported by the County Operations Manager, Golf Development Officer, the Board and other volunteers.
Director of Finance – with responsibilities for creating an annual operating budget, maintaining accounting records and reporting to the board on financial performance and dealing with statutory compliance including with Companies House and HM Revenue and Customs.
Director of Performance and Development with responsibilities for creating an environment where high performing teams can flourish at all levels. Supporting the development of golf within the County.
Director of Club Support with responsibilities for creating a strategy to help and support clubs in all things golf including marketing, handicapping, course rating etc.
Director of Championships and Competitions with responsibilities for ensuring that Championships and appropriate viable Competitions are available to all level of golfers.
Director of Governance with responsibilities for ensuring standard, policies and procedures are in place to support the goals of the Cornwall Golf
