County Captain elect Adam Bridgewater has named his Cornwall team to face the Royal Navy
at Perranporth GC on Saturday 29th March 2025.
Bridgewater is due to formally take up the captaincy at the CGU's Annual General Meeting just two days earlier and his first team selection for this annual friendly season opener sees the return of some familiar faces.
Most notable amongst these is former professional Billy Downing (Truro) who last year regained his amateur status. For 33 year old Downing this will be the first time he has donned a county shirt since 2011. Joining him back in the team is Jon Hancock (Newquay) with 'Hanks' having last played the one match back in early 2024. The same applies to 2023 Amateur Championship runner-up Jack Kevern (West Cornwall). Joe Ibbs-George (Perranporth) makes only his second appearance for the county team the first having been in 2020.
The full team is: Downing, Hancock, Kevern, Ibbs-George, James Ruddick (Perranporth), Jamie Greet, Kyle Fraser (both Mullion), Sam Crocker (Carlyon Bay), Matt Richards and Ethan Tempest (both West Cornwall).
The Cornwall team have already had a couple of pre-season get togethers and another is planned for mid April. The match with the Royal Navy will be the final one before the 2025 Channel League gets underway in May with an away fixture to Dorset.
We welcome the The Royal Navy team to the Duchy for what is always a very competitive match. The Navy play the county team on the Saturday and then play a friendly against the members at Perranporth the following day.
