The team from Truro Golf Club are now the holders of the Cornish Bowl trophy after yesterday’s 18 hole final staged under blue skies at Perranporth GC.
The Truro team eked out a 3 – 2 win over Trevose in a tight match determined by the last game on the course as two of the preceding games went to the 18th hole.
Despite the last-minute loss to injury of injured stalwart Andy Beazley, the Truro team emerged as winners, claiming the title for the 3rd time with previous wins coming back in 1994 and 2016.
Their first pair of Jeff Cowls and Tom Hatfield went down 2&1 to Trevose team Captain Peter Rojano and partner Ian Colwill.
Things were quickly levelled as Truro’s Martin Watts and James Paradise registered a 1 hole win over Aaron McWilliams and Callum Austerfield, before Truro edged in front as Lee Collett & Matt Salmon beat Damien Gough and Chris Rankine 3&1.
Yet again battling Trevose levelled the match as Gerald Smith & Graham Hughes beat Craig Owens and Stuart Nicholas by the odd hole.
In the end it came down to Truro’s Daryl Burford and Beazley’s able replacement Nick Pascoe to register a 3&2 win over Peter Conium and Clive Gwinnell and gain them the overall win and the Bowl trophy.
Perranporth GC Captain Steven Nelson and CGU President Martin Edwards welcomed the teams and presented both winners and runners up with tankards.
Both clubs and the CGU would like to thank Perranporth GC for their excellent hospitality and support and for the great meals the teams enjoyed post match.
