The Annual Cornwall Golf Union Dinner took place at Lanhydrock Hotel & GC last Friday and the evening was determined to have been a great success with many comments and messages since applauding the event.
The CGU Seniors County Finals winning team was clapped into dinner before some 100+ attendees were treated to a great atmosphere, excellent service and a first class meal in the warm cosy atmosphere of the festively and black and gold decorated clubhouse.
The Union was graced by the presence of the England Golf President Ian Watkins and, with a slightly different spelling, BBC Golf Correspondent Iain Carter entertained the gathering with tales from both the PGA and DP World Tours. He covered both serious and humorous issues and mishaps experienced and witnessed from PGA to LIV, from Augusta to Dubai, from Nicklaus to McIlroy, before undertaking a lively and amusing Q&A session with his audience.
County Captain Peter Simmons and attendees paid tribute to the long service of the absent Rob MacGregor to Duchy teams as the latter has recently moved into the ranks of PGA Professional. MacGregor was the winner of the Channel League Player of the Year.
And it was another Ian - this time Veale - who was presented with the CGU Player of the Year award by President Martin Edwards, recognising his win at the SWCGA Seniors in July and the part he played in the County Finals winning team at Torquay in October.
The CGU expresses huge gratitude to Graham and Clare Bond and all of their staff at Lanhydrock for making the evening such a success.
