St Enodoc are Junior Maxam Cup Winners 2024

St Enodoc - Junior Maxam Cup Winners 2024
(L to R: Oban Robinson, Kai Dingle, Alfie Chapman, Jack Jolliff, Bobby Godfrey and Harry Jolliff)

St Enodoc Juniors were the toast of a packed clubhouse yesterday evening after they captured the Junior Maxam Cup trophy played over the Holywell Course.

The foursomes stroke play competition saw a total of 68 juniors from 11 of the county's clubs take part in teams of 6 over 18 holes with the two best scores to count on a dry warm and benign half-term day.

St Enodoc had finished runners up in 2023 over the same course but this time they triumphed with a team total of 133, courtesy of great scores, the best being a gross 65 from club Junior Captain Jack Jolliff and partner Alfie Chapman which included a brace of birdies and a dozen pars. Both other pairs Bobby Godfrey with Harry Jolliff and Oban Robinson with Kai Dingle returned valuable gross 68s.

The team of juniors from Perranporth (on 137) were runners up in the gross event as Harrison Gurd partnered Ethan best to a 66 to which was added a 71 from Bryn Evans and Finley Robinson.

Team Nett Winners - West Cornwall
(Back L to R: Oliver Pratley, Pablo Beare, Charlotte Jenkin, Yves Armstrong-Donaldson Front: Joseph Kevern, Rory Hudson.)

The nett team competition was won by West Cornwall with a total of 121 compiled by a 59 from Pablo Beare & Yves Armstrong-Donaldson to which was added a 62 from Charlotte Jenkin playing with Rory Hudson. Runners up were St Mellion on 126 with a nett 61 from Owen Davies & Jacob Bullock and a 65 from Ethan Kinski & Harry Lusher.

Best Pair on the day - Hugo Watson and Kian Williams pictured with CGU President Martin Edwards

The best gross pairs score was won by Carlyon Bay's Hugo Watson & Kian Williams with a gross 64 (+1) just pipping the 65 of Jolliff & Chapman.

Beare & Armstrong-Donaldson's nett 59 was only good enough for second spot as the Trevose pairing of Connor O'Hagan and Ollie Richards (pictured below) romped to a 58.

After all had enjoyed a meal, CGU President Martin Edwards and host club General Manager George Tunbridge welcomed those present to the prizegiving. Thanks were expressed to St Enodoc and all of their staff who had presented a course in good condition and had looked after the juniors all day. In a very eloquent acceptance speech Jack Jolliff also thanked St Enodoc and made a special mention of their Junior Organiser Maria Buckley whom his team could not thank enough for her hard work on their behalf.
