CGU Stage Another CGI Course

Cornwall Golf is continuing to lead the way across the country having a further nine newly qualified Community Golf Instructors working across Cornwall.

The ongoing relationship between the Cornwall Golf Unions development officer Richard Bunch and the England Golf workforce and volunteer team at Woodhall Spa gave him the opportunity to arrange a further CGI course in Cornwall.

Trevose Golf & Country Club kindly hosted the day last Friday (19th July 2024) providing the ideal location and facilities for the England Golf trainers to run the course. One attendee travelled from Essex.

As a result Cornwall now has a further nine qualified CGI's added to the 13 who completed a course in March at China Fleet GC. Congratulations on their qualification goes to Sarah Duffy (Trevose), Alison Higson (Trevose), Jane Trapmore (Lanhydrock), Sandi Perry (Lanhydrock), Rob MacGregor (Tehidy/Falmouth), Phil Sedgeman (West Cornwall), Raj Dhumale (Truro), Alan Warwood (Trevose), and Richard Glasson (West Cornwall)

Richard Bunch comments "I have emphasised on many occasions that CGIs would and will be a game changer for the game of golf. Already through the spring/summer terms our CGI's have been delivering golf to over 700 juniors and adults each month in schools, clubs and other community settings.  It is now important that our affiliated clubs have a good volunteer network in place as we start to signpost people into the game. As an example Trevose under the leadership of current Captain Andrew Elderfield developed a Junior Foundation as they want to introduce golf to the local community, realising that our young golfers are the future of the game"
