The team from Trethorne Golf Club won the 2026 Cornish Bowl trophy after an 18 hole final staged at Newquay Golf Club on Sunday 15th March.
The weather started out dry but the rain soon set in for a wet and windy morning of golf, with Trethorne and Trevose battling it out for the trophy.
It was Trevose that got off to a strong start with the first pairing of Peter Rojano and Ian Colwill winning 3 and 2 against Trethorne's opening pairing of Chris Starck and Liam Lawrence.
The next match to finish was the third match with the Trethorne pairing of Simon Price and Gareth Wonmoth winning 3 and 2 against the Trevose partnership of Gerald Smith and Chris Rankine. Match score 1 - 1.
The second match was a very close affair with the result finishing all square after 18 holes. It was Trevose's Aaron McWilliams, who hit a fantastic shot onto the 1st green and with his partner Andrew Elderfield managed to win on the 19th hole against Phil Roberts and Andrew Dance from Trethorne. The score at this stage was 2 - 1 in Trevose's favour.
Trethorne were quick to level the match again with Captain Andrew Froude playing with Paul Hider winning 2 and 1 against Trevose's Ben Crossley and Trevor Meadows. Trethorne 2 - Trevose 2 so all down to the last match.
In the final match for Trethorne's was the pairing of Tom Horn and Andrew Hardy against Trevose's 16 year old junior Jack Ivamy and his partner Callum Austerfield.
Trethorne were 1 Up going down the last and Trevose's Ivamy hit a solid drive to within 170 yards of the green. Hardy teed off for Trethorne and mishit the shot, leaving his partner Horn only able to advance the ball a similar distance in 2 shots to where Trevose's tee shot was. From 180 yards out, Hardy struck the shot of his life with a hybrid, with the ball rolling up to within 3 foot of the hole and this was good enough to win the hole and the Cornish Bowl for Trethorne by 3 matches to 2.
As this started off as a Cornwall Golf Union event before unification, Cornwall Golf Union President Martin Edwards welcomed the teams and presented both winners and runners up with tankards.
Both clubs and Cornwall Golf would like to thank Newquay Golf Club for their excellent hospitality and support and for the great meals the teams enjoyed post match.
