Meet The Board

Chair – Caroline Hume-Kendall

Caroline Hume-Kendall is Chair of Cornwall Golf. Caroline is a single figure golfer and has represented the Cornwall Women’s team for many years. She has been a member of St Enodoc Golf Club since the 1980s and served as their first female Club Captain from 2023-2025. Living in Port Quin, Caroline and her husband Rupert own and manage a Truro-based property company. Caroline is a beekeeper, a qualified personal trainer and has interests in most sports. She describes her defining moment as climbing the Matterhorn in 2008. Caroline has been married since 1992 and has three children.

President – Nikki Hodge

Nikki Hodge is the President of Cornwall Golf. Nikki Hodge was President of the Cornwall Ladies County Golf Association before becoming the first President of Cornwall Golf. Nikki, a longstanding county player and single figure golfer, first became part of the CLCGA as a player in 2004. Nikki was the Cornwall County Captain in 2016 and is currently the welfare officer at her home club, Perranporth Golf Club. Nikki currently works within the NHS.

Vice-President – Chris Pountney

Chris Pountney is the Vice-President of Cornwall Golf. Chris will be well known to golf members in Cornwall, having retired from the Cornwall Golf Union in December 2025, after 13 years serving as County Secretary, a role he enjoyed immensely. Chris worked for the Devon and Cornwall Police before becoming the CGU County Secretary. Chris joined St Mellion Golf Club in 1994 and is currently in his third spell of Club Captain of St Mellion. Having retired, he would like to see his handicap in single figures once more.

Finance Director – David West

David West is the Finance Director of Cornwall Golf. David is a Senior Manager at Chartered Accountants PKF Francis Clark, Truro. David, a low single figure golfer, has been a lifelong member at Newquay Golf Club and has provided outstanding service over 20 years to the Cornwall Golf Union, having joined the Union as its Treasurer in 2006.

Performance and Development Director - Peter Brooks

Peter Brooks is the Performance and Development Director of Cornwall Golf. Peter is a member and Past Captain of Truro Golf Club. Peter founded a very successful financial planning business supporting clients in the South West. Peter has participated in different county level sports, including bowls, and understands what it takes to achieve high levels of performance. Peter is keen to help develop the game of golf for everyone in Cornwall and provide them with a pathway to maximise their potential.

Championships and Competitions Director – Simon Harper

Simon Harper is the Championships and Competitions Director of Cornwall Golf. Simon is the current St Austell Men's President, a two-time Past Captain of the club where he has been a member for 57 years, and is also Company Secretary of St Austell Golf Estates. Vastly experienced in both club and county competition management, he joined the CGU Executive Committee in 1987 and has been CGU Championships Chair since 2020. Simon is the Course Rating Team Leader for Cornwall.

Governance Director – Carole Waights

Carole Waights is the Governance Director of Cornwall Golf. Carole has a lot of experience at both county and national level of golf, having been Yorkshire Women’s Captain in 2013 and a Non-Executive Director of England Golf for 3 years.  During this time, she was Chair of the Nominations Committee, Chair of the People Strategy Group and Vice Chair of the England Golf Governance Committee. Carole moved to Cornwall in 2017 and joined St Enodoc Golf Club, where she has been Women’s Captain. Before retiring, Carole worked in Organisational and Personal Development both in the UK and internationally.

Communications Director – Max Stockwell

Max Stockwell is the Communications Director for Cornwall Golf. Max has been the Director of Golf at Bowood Park Golf Club for the past eight years, where he played a key role in developing the club’s communications strategy, leading marketing campaigns, and strengthening community outreach initiatives. A scratch golfer and county-level player, Max has also contributed to the governance of the game through his involvement as a member of the Cornwall Golf Union Executive Committee. Max is a qualified Community Golf Instructor and holds qualifications at Head Greenkeeper level.

Operations Manager – Simon Wood

Simon Wood is the Operations Manager of Cornwall Golf. Simon has long-term hands-on golf experience in Cornwall, dating back to between 2009 and 2016, when he was the County Golf Development Officer for England Golf within Cornwall. Simon was a PGA Professional for over 15 years, including over 9 years at Yelverton Golf Club in Devon and was Secretary of the Devon Golf Alliance for 2 years. More recently, Simon was the founder of Golf Access, the innovative on-course golf coaching programme for beginner golfers.

Performance and Development Manager – Richard Bunch

Richard Bunch is the Performance and Development Manager of Cornwall Golf. Richard, a Men’s Seniors County player, has been working for the past three years for the Cornwall Golf Union as the Golf Development Officer. He served with the Sussex and Metropolitan Police for over 28 years. He has now been involved in the game for over 50 years playing in Sussex, Kent and Surrey before moving to the Duchy in 2010. Richard has served on golf club committees at three clubs and was Club Captain at West Cornwall GC in 2019. In addition to all this, he has worked at Cape Cornwall undertaking a number of roles.
